TABUK: US Ambassador Joseph Westphal said the US government commends the Saudi leadership for its Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program. “It also commends efforts exerted to diversify the economy and lessen dependence on oil.”
He said diversifying the economy would create millions of job opportunities for the Kingdom’s citizens, especially women and young people.
The US, as a strategic partner, is committed to helping the Kingdom in achieving these goals, which was confirmed by President Obama during his meeting with Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during his meeting at the White House last June.
As part of this commitment, the US government is working on an economic plan to support the Saudi government in interpreting its vision and the aspirations of the NTP.
“My country has a lot of proven experience in realizing transformation of economic and social development plans, and we are careful to share with the Kingdom the best practices and the learned lessons in this respect. We are working hard to make sure that certain elements of the 2030 Vision and the NTP don’t obstruct the flow of foreign investors into the Kingdom.”
The ambassador said developing the mineral sector is one of the important elements for the economic partnership plan between the US and Saudi Arabia, pointing out that this sector represents the third pillar of the Saudi economy after oil and petrochemicals, and one of the basic elements of the national development plan in the Kingdom.
“Because the mineral sector is important to the 2030 Vision and the NTP, and to appreciate the chances offered by this sector to deepen economic relations between the two countries, an American team is working hard to bring leaderships from the Saudi private and government sectors to participate in the 2016 MinExpo in Las Vegas, which takes place on Sept. 26-28,” he said.
